Council is seeking your ideas around options for contemporary museum experiences in Maitland, under the banner of Open Museums, Open Minds. The consultation process officially kicks off at the Maitland Aroma Festival this weekend, so come along and have your say.
A range of posters which represent some themes of contemporary museum experiences, using examples from Maitland and beyond, will feature in Stillsbury Lane within the festival precinct. Visitors will have the opportunity to stop and ask questions, complete a quick survey or simply write down their ideas directly on to the posters.
Council’s Manager Marketing and Communications Rachel MacLucas says, ‘We would like to talk to locals and visitors about the range of contemporary museum experiences that could be developed across Maitland and their views on how the community might interact with those experiences’.
A museum experience can take many forms including interpretative walks, pop up museums or creative installations, open days for historical buildings, temporary displays, traditional museums or even a series of monuments that can be found at different locations across the city.
‘Across Maitland there are already open museum style experiences via flagship events such as Steamfest and Peek into the Past at Tocal, through installations such as Look Up, through heritage walks and facilities like Morpeth Courthouse Museum, Maitland City Library and Maitland Gaol, but we also want to see what other options the community are interested in,’ said Ms MacLucas.
