As last year’s overall winner of the Keep NSW Beautiful Blue Star Regional Sustainability Award, Maitland will this weekend welcome around 80 delegates for the 2017 award ceremony.

These annual awards are presented to publicly recognise and acknowledge the contributions of NSW regional councils, community groups and businesses towards responsible environmental management and heritage protection in their local area.

Interim Chief Executive and Executive Director of Keep NSW Beautiful Val Southam says, ‘We are looking forward to bringing this event to Maitland. It’s a great opportunity for a range of organisations to share their experiences in an open and collaborative environment.’

The day will commence at Maitland Gaol with a selection of tours showcasing aspects of Maitland’s winning entry. A BBQ lunch, together with presentations of this year’s entries and a diverse line up of case studies and other interesting and informative projects, will follow.

Maitland Mayor, Cr Loretta Baker says, ‘It’s great for Maitland to have the opportunity to share some of our sustainability initiatives with delegates from across the state. The city also receives an economic benefit from the visitation that comes with hosting this event.’

The Awards Gala Dinner will take place at Maitland Town Hall, with the evening culminating in the announcement of the overall 2017 Blue Star Regional Sustainability Award winner, which will represent NSW at the Keep Australia Beautiful National Tidy Towns Awards, to be held in Barmera SA in early 2014.
