Membership
Membership of Maitland City Library is free to residents of the Maitland local government area, as well as to those working or studying in the area. Membership is also free to visitors who are members of another public library.
Joining the Library
Applications for membership are available at any branch. You will be required to produce identification showing your name and current address. Acceptable forms of identification include a driver's license, rates notice, utilities bill, social security or pension card, concession card, dated personal correspondence or rent receipt
Your library card can be used to borrow items from any Maitland City Library branch. Items may also be returned to any of our branches.
All items borrowed on your card are your responsibility.
If your card is lost or stolen please notify us immediately.
Loans
Library members may borrow up to 30 items at a time from any Maitland City Library branch. A 3 week loan period applies to all items. Items not returned by their due date will attract an overdue fine.
Returns
Items may be returned to any of our branch libraries at Maitland, East Maitland, Rutherford or Thornton

All items in our collection are listed in the Library catalogue. Please speak to any staff member if you need assistance to locate items
Member services
Library members are able to access member services to check their own personal record of loans and to renew items on loan. You will need to have ready the barcode number from your library card and also your password. A password is automatically generated when you join and is a six digit number based on your date of birth. You are able to change your password at any time.
Checking my record
Library members can use member services through our website to access their record of items on loan, or view any other messages attached to their record.
Renewals
Items may be renewed in person at any branch, by phone or by visiting member services on our website. If using our website, please remember to have your library card barcode number and password ready. Items may be renewed if they have not been requested by another customer.

Items listed in our catalogue may be reserved in person at any branch, by phone or by checking member services on our website. If using our website, please remember to have your library card barcode number and password ready. Please see our fees and charges for the cost of this service.
