 What is Baby Book Club?

Maitland City Library recognises the importance of developing language skills in young children.
Baby Book Club aims to encourage and promote reading from an early age, empower parents with skills to develop their children's literacy and provide a setting for parents and carers of young children to meet.

Maitland City Library's Baby Book Club is a special programme for parents and caregivers to learn how to share reading and language skills with their babies. This programme is designed to be enjoyed by babies from 0 to 24 months accompanied by a parent, grandparent or carer.

Baby Book Club sessions include stories, songs, rhymes and finger play through the use of board books, puppets and musical instruments.  Reading tips and advice on the best age appropriate resources are provided by Library staff.

Reading to Your Baby

Babies love the sound of the human voice. Children whose parents read books to them when they are young often learn to speak, read and write more easily. Sharing stories encourages important skills such as language development, counting, concentration, creativity and listening.

Library staff can provide reading tips and suggestions on the best resources for your baby.
