Creating pathways to the community's past and preserving local knowledge

Purpose

Maitland City Library plays a key role in the development and management of the documentary heritage of the Maitland community through:
Being a central repository for the collection, management and preservation of material and resources that record or document the history and development of the Maitland area

Providing a reference collection of non-rare and non-fragile items for access by researchers and time Maitland Library is open

Developing coperative arrangements with local community groups and cultural institutions for the development, management and preservation of Maitland's documentary heritage; and

Promoting community interest in local history through events, exhibtions, seminars and active partnerships

Local Studies Collection

Maitland City Library plays a key role in collecting and preserving the social and documentary heritage for current and future generations, and sharing the memory of the Maitland community. The collection, description, storage, dissemination and sharing of local studies is a core role of the library service.

The Maitland Local Studies Strategy provides a framework for the development of a city wide Local Studies approach to collecting and preserving local studies resources.

Look Who's Talking Local History

Maitland City Library's Look Who's Talking Local History has been developed to open a window on our City's history and heritage by presenting a series of engaging and entertaining events which bring to life the stories from our past.

The 2013 programme will cover a range of topics and book launches.
