Local Studies
The Maitland Local Studies Strategy is a new initiative which will create a citywide vision and action plan for the development and preservation of Maitland's historical resources. If you have historical records, or belong to a community group that does, then this project seeks to assist you.
Project aims
To create a shared vision for the development and management of the city’s documentary heritage
To identify existing provision of local studies/heritage resources in Maitland and describe the nature of that provision
To identify development needs arising from gaps in provision
To establish a central repository for collections of permanent historical value
To build and maintain partnerships with Council sections, organisations, community groups and individuals to develop, manage and preserve documentary resources with local significance
To establish best practice standards for access to and preservation of resources
To produce a local studies strategy for the City of Maitland, including recommendations and actions
How can I contribute?
The project depends on the involvement of the many individuals, community groups, organisations and institutions that hold historical records. A questionnaire will be available to all stakeholders, providing an opportunity to describe the resources and materials held.
What type of information is relevant?
Information that relates to, or illustrates the historical development of the Maitland area and the activities of institutions, organisations and individuals in it.
What will happen to the information?
The supply of information in the questionnaire is entirely voluntary and can be identified as private, or accessible in whole or in part by arrangement only, negotiated through Maitland Library.
