The Mystery of Beer

Date: 02 September 2009

There is a multitude of reasons why quality beer is a beverage savoured by millions throughout the world. The crisp fresh taste, the malty mouth finish, the satisfying thirst quench and of course the opportunity to try something new. These reasons are by no means mysterious and for the beer curious this appetite can be sated during the Bitter & Twisted International Boutique Beer Festival to be held over the 7th & 8th November at the Maitland Gaol.

The Festival offers nationally recognised entertainment, hand crafted gifts, local produce, regional wines, international cuisine and most importantly, beer! Over 50 boutique beers from the best Australian craft breweries and a fine selection of speciality brews from around the world will be available to sample over the weekend. The recipe for a great day out, no doubt.

But it would seem our Bitter & Twisted Brewers are looking to bring intrigue along with their ales, lagers and stouts. A number of participating breweries will feature previously untapped, “mystery beers” at the event to the delight of festival goers. Local brewer, Keith Grice of Hunter Beer Co. has not yet named his secret Bitter & Twisted beer preferring to let the festival folk’s tastebuds do the talking.

Whilst the crew from 4 Pines Brewing Company, new to Bitter & Twisted in 2009, are busily brewing up the “4 Pines Speciality” especially for the event.

In an exciting development for one of the crowd favourites Coopers, a top secret brew has been added to its range, a most infrequent occurrence for the brand, with Bitter & Twisted attendees lucky enough to be amongst the first to sample it over the weekend in November.

Bitter & Twisted tickets are limited, so don’t miss your chance to experience the true mystery (and joy) of great beer. Bitter & Twisted will be held at the Maitland Gaol (don’t worry the last inmates left in 1998) over the 7 - 8 November 2009.

Tasting “Day Release” tickets to the Festival start at $30 (including entry, five tasting tokens and a tasting glass) and for the beer dedicated, VIP and Food Inspector tickets are also available.
