Second-hand Saturday!

Date: 20 October 2009

Maitland City Council in association with Hunter Resource Recovery will hold its inaugural Second-hand Saturday on Saturday November 7, 2009 at Walka Water Works on Scobies Lane, Oakhampton from 9am to 12noon and will provide the community with the opportunity to dispose of recyclable unwanted household items.

Do you have old household appliances, computers or mobile phones stored around your house that you do not know what to do with? Have you had a spring clean and want to get rid of unwanted clothing and shoes, towels, blankets, sporting goods, toys and games, or pots and pans? Second-hand Saturday could be the answer!

Manager of Development and Environment David Simm said, “Second-hand Saturday will see residents able to dispose of recyclable e-waste items such as unwanted hand held electronic items, microwave ovens, televisions, VCR’s, DVD players, stereos, mobile phones, computers, printers, fax machines, power tools, and small kitchen appliances free of charge. In addition, items such as clothing, sheets, towels, blankets, books, sport goods, DVDs and CDs, printer cartridges, old pots and pans, and toys and games will also be collected for recycling.

“Second-hand Saturday blends together the very successful e-waste collection program and current Life Cycle service,” Mr. Simm said.

People wishing to dispose of items as a part of Second-hand Saturday will be required to show some form of identification that indicates that they are a resident of the Maitland local government area. Items for disposal should be clearly separated into e-waste and other items to ensure a quick and speedy collection process.

Household quantities only will be accepted with items able to be in working or non-working order. Items will only be accepted if they can be carried by one person; no bulky household items will be accepted as a part of this collection

All enquiries regarding Second-hand Saturday should be directed to Hunter Resource Recovery by phoning 1800838884. Information on what can be recycled is also available on the web at www.lifecyclehunter.com.au and www.hrr.com.au.
