Date: 26 October 2009
The 2009 Maitland City Council Schools Environment Program Showcase Event will be held on Thursday, 5 November, at the Maitland Town Hall.
Maitland City Council has coordinated the Schools Environment Program since 1995 to assist schools with their contributions towards the overall management of the natural environment. Council provides assistance, support and expertise where applicable to the schools to assist with their implementation of environmental education, restoration, and improvement projects within their school grounds.
Maitland City Council has worked with schools to complete waste audits, hosted plant propagation workshops, host an Enviro Youth Forum for students, and assisted schools with establishing native vegetation within school grounds.
The Showcase Event will allow schools to present information on their environmental achievements through formal presentations and poster displays.
Manager of Development and Environment David Simm said, “The Showcase Event provides the opportunity for Council and the community to celebrate the environmental achievements that have been made within the schools of the Maitland local government area over the last two years”.
