Term 4 art events for kids!

Date: 26 October 2009

Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG) is proud to present its program of term 4 art classes for children, teens and families, and for the first time, this program includes classes for children of all ages, as young as 2 and as old as 18.

Three different types of classes will be presented by MRAG. The art gallery’s regular classes for children 6-12 and teens 13-18 will be complimented for the first time this term with the addition of a new class for children aged 2-6.

“When combined with the Art Factory, Maitland Regional Art Gallery’s dedicated children’s art and play space, and the FREE art workshops we hold every Sunday for kids of all ages, it demonstrates what a valuable educational resource the new art gallery has become for the people of Maitland,” said Joe Eisenberg, Cultural Director of Maitland Regional Art Gallery.

The class for 2-6 year olds, playfully called Pipsqueak! is a program the art gallery has trialled very successfully at the Maitland Libraries. The program began trials in January, months before the art gallery had opened. Because parents, preschools, mother’s groups and other interested parties often have busy schedules, interested parties can also book a pipsqueak class for 10 children or more at a time which suits.

“The aims of the Pipsqueak class are to get parents or carers and their children to work together,” Joe Eisenberg said.

“Toddlers and young kids are often easily encouraged to use a wide range of art materials, and working side by side with a parent or carer is often a really lovely bonding experience for parents too”

Also in term 4 the gallery will host Art Tuesdays for children aged 6-12; and Art Wednesdays is for teens aged 13-18.
