Maitland Recreation and Open Space Strategy

The Maitland Recreation and Open Space Strategy (MROSSR, 2004) seeks to provide a clear vision and direction regarding the purpose, level of provision, development priorities and management of recreational open space areas in the Maitland local government area (LGA).

The recommendations in this report provide strategic direction regarding priority actions to achieve the vision over the next 5-10 years. The recommendations are based on a combination of community consultation, a survey distributed to all households and the Maitland LGA, review of national data and experience.

For further information regarding the Maitland Recreation and Open Space Strategy please contact Council’s Recreation Planner, phone (02) 4934 9700.

Recreation Board Information

For many years Maitland City Council has encouraged community participation in the provision of community services and facilities through the appointment of Recreation Boards. The Recreation Boards operating in the Maitland LGA are appointed in accordance with the provisions of Sections 355 and 377 of the Local Government Act, 1993.

Membership of a Recreation Board is a voluntary position and Council recognises each Recreation Board and their members as valuable partners in the management of sportsgrounds and reserves.

There are currently 31 sporting facilities Maitland Local Government Area (LGA), of which 29 are under the care and control of Recreation Boards. Maitland City Council is developing a more planned approach to the distribution of resources among all sportsgrounds, to address the challenge of modernising, as well as providing, facilities that meet the changing recreational and leisure needs of our community.

For further information on Recreation Boards contact Council’s Recreation Development Officer on (02) 4934 9700.
