The Maitland community crime prevention project began in August 1999 as a partnership between Maitland & Cessnock City Councils.
Under the project, consultations were undertaken with stakeholders and the respective local communities via a household crime survey. Crime profiles were also developed for each city and community crime prevention plans, also for each city, have been developed and partially implemented.
The plan was adopted by Maitland City Council in November 2000, and endorsed as a Safer Community Compact by the Attorney General in June 2001.
