Please be advised that Council is currently undertaking road reconstruction works on Railway Avenue and Glenroy Street, Thornton. As previously notified, various road closures will be implemented to facilitate works. Please see below for a list of upcoming closures:
- Monday 12 October to Friday 23 October 2020 - Pavement reconstruction works will commence on Glenroy Street from Monday 12 October 2020. Works will be undertaken from Railway Avenue intersection approximately 50m east from Monday 12 October, and from Railway Avenue intersection to Government Road from Tuesday 13 October. Works are expected to take approximately two weeks (weather dependent). During the above-mentioned works, Glenroy Street will be closed to non-local residents at both Ellesmere Street and Railway Avenue (east), and Government Road and Railway Avenue (west) intersections. These closures will be manned by traffic controllers to allow local resident access. During these works driveway access to your property may be impacted during work hours, however should be restored by 4.00pm each afternoon.
- Sunday 18 October to Sunday 25 October 2020 inclusive - Median construction works will begin on Railway Avenue from Sunday 18 October 2020. During these works, concrete barriers will be installed down the center of Railway Avenue from Karuah Street to Rockleigh Street. Access to property driveways will not be affected during these works, however there will be no on-street parking available on the eastern side of Railway Avenue. PLEASE NOTE: The speed limit on Railway Avenue will become 40km/h 24 hours during this period. The bus stop fronting 18 Railway Avenue will be temporarily relocated 50m north fronting 16 Railway Avenue.
- Monday 19 October to Friday 6 November 2020 - Traffic light installation works will begin at the intersection of Railway Avenue and Glenroy Street from Monday 19 October 2020. These works are expected to take approximately three weeks. Shoulder closures will be implemented during work hours in the vicinity of works.
