Future plans for rural land and housing
Through extensive consultation, you’ve told us you want to see a change in the way our rural lands and housing is planned and managed – these strategies are the result of what you’ve told us.
The draft Rural Land Strategy will guide how we respond to the pressures on rural land while increasing economic opportunity and protecting the natural, ecological and scenic quality of rural areas
The draft Local Housing Strategy responds to population growth and demographic changes by looking at what types of future housing will be needed, where it can be best located and how we can help influence better housing outcomes.
The documents are based on extensive community consultation from previous strategic plans, stakeholder engagement and recent results from the Community Satisfaction Survey.
Public exhibition closed on Friday 4 November 2022.

A 15 minute neighbourhood is a neighbourhood in which you can access all of your most basic, day-to-day needs within a 15-minute walk or cycle from your home, e.g. a school, cafe, park and doctor's surgery. It will support people who want to live and work locally and who seek to get around without a personal vehicle. It’s already a concept that we can see in more traditional towns and suburbs developed before the 1960's, including Maitland.
