Photographs of Decommissioned Australian Prisons and Gaols

For the past 30 years Australian Photographer, Brett Leigh Dicks, has been photographing the world’s natural and urban landscapes etched with traces of human history. His latest project has taken him all over the world to photograph decommissioned prison’s and he has finally had the opportunity to complete a series in his homeland. The exhibition explores eight different prisons spread across Australia that include Maitland Gaol, Adelaide Gaol, Fremantle Prison, HM Prison Geelong, J Ward Ararat, Old Dubbo Gaol, Parramatta Gaol and Port Arthur.

Exhibited from the 16 December 2017 until 23 February 2018 the subject matter will range from the empty quietness of once bustling cell blocks to more abstract contemplations of the interaction between barred windows and morning lights or the poetic twists of razor wire. An exhibition not to be missed it will be available for a limited time only and included in the standard entry price of Maitland Gaol.

Entry to the exhibition is included as part of the standard entry charges to the site.
