Health and wellbeing
Maitland has both a public hospital, which boasts a 24 hour emergency department and a private hospital. Our excellent hospitals are complimented by several doctor's surgeries and a variety of health and medical specialists across the city, including but not limited to: pathologists, physiotherapists, dentists, podiatrists, optometrists and mental health professionals. The Maitland area also has a range of chemists, some of which operate extended hours and weekends. Some local chemists will even deliver to your door.
If you're seeking alternative health therapies Maitland features a wellness centre which offers dry needling and acupuncture amongst other services and there are plenty of other alternative specialists and service providers across Maitland including naturopathy, massage, reiki and mediation.
Search for a GP, dentist, optometrist or a range of other specialists near you through Health Engine, which is Australia’s leading website for finding and booking health practitioners in your local area. Visit healthengine.com.au or call 1300 377 639.
- GP Access After Hours is a service catering for people requiring medical attention after normal doctor surgery opening times. The GP Access clinic is located at Maitland Hospital. GP Access also offers a phone service to provide advice to people considering visiting a GP or making the trip to hospital.
- Maitland Private Hospital is located at 175 Chisholm Road, East Maitland. It is a 151-bed acute medical, surgical, post-natal, day oncology, mental health and rehabilitation hospital that hosts more than 150 credentialed Doctors from a range of specialities. As the only private hospital between Newcastle and Taree, it plays a valuable role in the communities of Maitland, the Lower Hunter and Port Stephens.
East Maitland Community Health Services offer a range of community based health services to all members of the Maitland community. The health centre is located at 58 Stronach Avenue, East Maitland, just across from Stockland Greenhills.
