Draft Community Engagement Framework
Council has prepared a draft Community Engagement Framework to guide how, what, when, where and why we will engage with the community.
The draft Community Engagement Framework includes a Community Engagement Policy and a Community Engagement Strategy and Action Plan. It is also supported by an internal toolkit for use by staff.
The draft framework has been informed by feedback from the community over the past three years, as well as an audit of the engagement process across the organisation. Staff were also consulted about the engagement process at Council, and what they perceived to be the barriers and challenges to embedding engagement as a core part of how Council does business. Their input has helped inform the development of new community engagement principles that are Council's commitment to engaging with the community when there are decisions to be made or problems to solve, where appropriate.
The draft community engagement principles are:
Informative and transparent - we will provide the community with the information they need to participate
Inclusive and accessible - we will make it easy and fair for everyone potentially affected by a decision to participate
Proactive and timely - we will provide regular opportunities for the community to participate and engage before the decision has been made
Meaningful and genuine - we will listen to our community and consider their input as part of decision making
Flexible and responsive - we will use community feedback to design our engagement activities
Reported - we will tell the community how their input affected the decision
On 10 March 2020, Council endorsed the draft framework for public exhibition commencing on 12 March 2020 and closing on 9 April 2020. Public exhibition is now closed.
