Eastern Precinct Community Facilities
The new facilities will be in Tenambit, on the site of the existing community hall, in Thornton, on the site of the Pat Hughes Community Centre and Thornton Library, and the third will be in Chisholm on Heritage Drive.
The facilities will cater for the growing population in these areas and provide updated, multi purpose facilities that meet the needs of each community. The Thornton facility will include a new library in addition to a multi function community hub space.
As part of developing the designs, Council wants to better understand what facilities, services and functions the community would like to see in these spaces.
The community will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the designs for each community facility before it progresses to construction.
The Tenambit Community Hall located at Tyrell Street, Tenambit was built in 1960 and is now too small to service the current population.
Council wants to build a new, larger facility that is adaptable to a variety of community uses.

The new community facility at Thornton will incorporate a multi purpose community hub space as well as a new Thornton Library on Taylor Avenue.
The existing library was built in 1998 and at 275 square metres is less than a quarter of the size needed for the population. It has also not been upgraded since it was constructed.
The Pat Hughes Community Centre adjoins Thornton Library and was built in 1983. It has a medium sized community hall catering for 160-plus people plus offices and amenities.
Although the facility is large enough for the wide range of bookings it receives, it doesn't meet the needs of the community.

Chisholm is a new urban release area and does not have an existing community facility.
Council is proposing to locate the new community facility on Heritage Drive, Chisholm, in the vicinity of a completed park with playground and picnic facilities.
The facility will support a range of local level activities.
