All About Women live from Sydney Opera House to Maitland
The mainstage action from the vibrant ‘All About Women Festival’ will be live streamed from the Sydney Opera House to the Maitland Town Hall on Sunday 8 March. Hosted by Maitland City Library, the ‘All About Women’ satellite sessions pursue questions on gender, justice and equality.
All About Women is a festival which has been hosted by Sydney Opera House since 2013. Sessions on offer to local audiences include Gina Rippon, the author of the ground breaking book ‘The Gendered Brain’, astrophysicist Jo Dunkley with ‘The Forgotten Women of Astronomy’ and journalist Jill Stark on our relationship with alcohol in discussion with Yumi Stynes and Shanna Whan.
Mayor of Maitland Loretta Baker says, ‘It is a pleasure to host such a stimulating series of discussions in Maitland. All About Women always presents a thought provoking and engaging program that provides new perspectives and gives voice to many women.’
Lecturer in English at the University of Newcastle, Associate Professor Trisha Pender, will facilitate audience discussion between the live streams. Dr Pender has active research interests in early modern literature, feminist literary history and theory, and contemporary popular culture.
Information from women’s groups and networks in the Hunter will be available on the day, with Harry Hartog onsite to provide a pop-up bookshop.
All About Women is a free event presented by Maitland City Library. Bookings are encouraged and can be made online at maitlandlibrary.com.au or for further information phone Maitland Library on 4933 6952.
