ARTEXPRESS brings NSW’s next generation of artists to Maitland
Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG) will host the highly anticipated ARTEXPRESS 2026 exhibition from 19 April 2026, featuring an impressive selection of student artworks from across New South Wales.
ARTEXPRESS is an annual exhibition showcasing works created for the art-making component of the 2025 HSC Visual Arts examination. A collaboration between the NSW Department of Education and the NSW Education Standards Authority, the exhibition celebrates the artistry, knowledge and technical skill of the state’s emerging young artists.
The works selected for ARTEXPRESS demonstrate strong ideas and technical expertise, offering audiences a unique insight into the issues and perspectives that matter most to young people today. With almost half of the featured artists hailing from the Hunter, ARTEXPRESS showcases the region’s vibrant and creative young talent.
Director of Maitland Regional Art Gallery Gerry Bobsien says the Gallery is proud to showcase local young artists, providing them the opportunity to share their creative vision and ideas with the wider community.
“ARTEXPRESS showcases works of outstanding strength, storytelling and technical skill, giving students a significant public platform at an important stage in their creative development.
“These artworks offer insight into the ideas and issues shaping the next generation. Visitors can explore a diverse range of art forms and perspectives, reflecting both personal stories and broader social themes.
"Bringing ARTEXPRESS to Maitland ensures our community can experience exceptional art locally, while fostering participation and connection for young creatives throughout the region.”
