Bringing Christmas cheer to those in need
Earlier this week I paid a visit to the Maitland Neighbourhood Centre and donated some gifts on behalf of Councillors and Council staff.
For the past few years Councillors and staff have wrapped and donated a number of gifts to the centre, which will now be passed on to kids who might not always get a great Christmas gift.
Christmas is always a great time of year for many people who are able to share good times with family and friends. It is, however, important to remember those who might not always have a great time or enjoy this time of year.
The Maitland Neighbourhood Centre in Rutherford is well and truly there for those in need and that was clearly on show when I stopped by during the week. It was great to meet with Manager Sarah Adams, who is clearly extremely passionate about Christmas and the importance of giving.
It was also good to see the huge range of other donations at the Centre which have now been used in different hampers and given to families in need. Each family will receive some pantry staples, such as cereal and pasta, and other items like Christmas cake. Gifts will also be included for families with children.
Having a facility like the Maitland Neighbourhood Centre in our community is a wonderful thing and I want to thank all the great volunteers there who ensure this tradition happens every year.
Stay safe this Christmas
Just a quick reminder as well to all who are travelling this Christmas and New Year period to stay safe on the roads and be aware of double demerits. They are in place from Friday 21 December to Tuesday 1 January.
Have a very merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
