Critically acclaimed author coming to Maitland for Look Who's Talking
Set in Newcastle, Sala’s novels evoke a strong sense of place, vividly bringing to life the wild, beautiful and sometimes dangerous Newcastle of decades past. His award winning first novel, ‘The Last Thread’, is based on his own upbringing, tracing a boy’s journey into adulthood against a backdrop of family secrets, betrayals and unhealed wounds. His most recent book, ‘The Restorer’, is a taut, emotional story about a fractured family trying to build a new life and find their own sense of healing.
Manager Gallery and Libraries Keryl Collard says, ‘We are excited to have Michael Sala appear as part of Maitland City Library’s Look Who’s Talking program. His novels have been described as emotional and poetic, and audience members will be treated to a powerful but sympathetic insight into experiences of family life.’
Michael was born in the Netherlands and spent his childhood moving between Australia and Europe. He currently lives in Newcastle and teaches Creative Writing at the University of Newcastle.
