Expressions of interest for committee representatives

Maitland City Council is calling for expressions of interest for community members and representatives of stakeholder organistions to join three advisory committees. This is a valuable opportunity that brings together local voices, lived experience and specialist knowledge to contribute to Council’s decision–making process, helping to shape priorities and deliver meaningful outcomes for the Maitland community.

These committees are important to the community as they promote innovation and strengthen the sharing of diverse perspectives. This encourages practical and sustainable outcomes that aim to improve processes and strategies to enhance quality of life in Maitland. This reflects Council’s commitment to transparency, collaboration and meaningful engagement.

Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold said these representatives will play a role in helping guide decisions that strengthen the relationship between Council and the community for a connected and thriving Maitland.

“The most meaningful impacts come from collaboration and stronger communities are built on engagement,” said Mayor Penfold.

Each committee focuses on a key area of community life. Expressions of interest are open for the following strategic advisory committees:

• Awards and Recognition Committee (community member) - Advises on suitable award recipients on behalf of the city including Freeman of the City, Australia Day and Maitland City Service Awards.

• Sport, Recreation and Leisure Committee (community member) - Advises on strategies to enhance active lifestyles, inclusion and access to recreation.

• Environment and Sustainability Committee (Stakeholder member) - Advises on strategies to protect the environment and promote sustainable development.

“We are looking for representatives who bring lived experience, local knowledge or professional expertise and are keen to potentially bring new ideas and thinking to actively contribute to Maitland’s future,” said Mayor Penfold.

The committee’s play an essential role in supporting Council as they drive innovation, contribute valuable knowledge and bring a range of perspectives that strengthen our processes and strategies so Council can better meet the needs of our community.

The nomination period is now open and closes 20 March. Successful nominees will be advised by 10 April, ahead of the next round of committee meetings.

Community members and stakeholders are encouraged to submit their expressions of interest by 20 March.
