Head to The Levee and Taste

I’m excited that Maitland Taste is on again this weekend. It’s another great event in our local calendar that I’m looking forward to.

I always enjoy Taste each year because it is a real celebration of the Hunter. It will show off our delightful local produce, our great flora and showcase a range of delicious food and some of the best wines from across our region.

Some of the highlights this Saturday and Sunday will be the involvement of Slow Food Hunter Valley, the smart gardening system from Herb Urban and the appearance of celebrity chef Matt Golinski. Matt’s a wonderfully talented chef with an amazing story, so I encourage you to get to Taste, meet him and watch him in action in one of his many cooking demonstrations.

International Women’s Day

Yesterday (Thursday 8 March) was International Women’s Day, which I believe is an important date on our calendar. It has been a really big year for women, especially through things like the #metoo movement, and I strongly believe that women speaking out about discrimination and making themselves vulnerable has been a huge step in the right direction.

I was lucky enough to be mentored by some great women growing up and I’d love to be that person for other people. I want to let young women know that they deserve to reach for the sky and dream big, and I promise I will work tirelessly to ensure that this is possible in our city.

There is so much left to do to bring about gender equality in this country, but I heard someone sum it up perfectly yesterday. They said the battle for gender equality won’t be won until such time as an international day for women doesn’t need to exist.

Enjoy your weekend!
