Maitland City Council Community Grants now open for local projects and celebrations

Applications are now open for Maitland City Council’s Biannual Community Grants Program, allowing local community groups and organisations to secure funding for projects, programs and events that bring the community together and contribute to a thriving, connected Maitland.

Through two funding streams, individuals and community groups can access up to $6,000 for Community Projects and up to $4,000 for Community Celebrations, supporting everything from wellbeing initiatives and creative programs to local events and commemorative activities.

Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold says the program continues to play a vital role in supporting local individuals and organisations and the important work they do across the community.

“Our Biannual Community Grants Program helps locals bring great ideas to life, supporting initiatives that contribute to a thriving and inclusive Maitland.

“More than 40 community projects and events have been supported through Council’s Biannual Community Grants Program in 2026 so far, helping bring local initiatives to life,” Mayor Penfold said.

The Community Projects funding stream supports initiatives that respond to local needs and promote social connection. Funding is available under three subcategories: Community Strengthening, Creative Community and Healthy Active Living.

The Community Celebrations funding stream aims to support groups and community organisations to run events and activities that encourage community participation and develop a sense of belonging. Funding is available in two subcategories: Commemorative Days, such as ANZAC Day or Remembrance Day, and Recognised Days and Weeks, including Reconciliation Week and International Women’s Day.

“I encourage all eligible community groups and organisations to explore the funding opportunities available and consider how these grants could bring their projects to life. We look forward to supporting more local initiatives that make a positive difference to our community,” Mayor Penfold said.

Applications are open from Monday 3 August to Monday 14 September for projects and events scheduled to take place before 30 June 2027. Full details including eligibility criteria and guidelines are available at mait.city/BiannualGrantsProgram
