More visitors to choose Maitland
Maitland City Council is pleased to announce its latest visitor economy campaign, Make it Maitland, developed in partnership with Destination NSW and supported by NSW Government funding. The campaign launches Make it Maitland, the city's new destination brand identity, which will incorporate the #mymaitland social media hashtag.
Make it Maitland is a digital and public relations campaign that will focus on building awareness and showcasing the diverse appeal of Maitland as a holiday destination. The campaign will run from today, Wednesday 5 June until November 2019 and primarily targets singles and couples aged 35 to 55 years residing in Sydney, as well as those who live two to four hours’ drive from Maitland. This campaign will build on the success of the recent #mymaitland visiting friends and relatives campaign and further build awareness of Maitland outside of the immediate area.
Maitland City Council's Mayor Loretta Baker says, 'Maitland has such a unique story to tell. With our rich history, engaging local characters, strong creative culture, quality food offering and fantastic events we should be telling a wider audience and this campaign is going to do that for us.
'The Make it Maitland campaign is a great opportunity for local businesses and residents to get involved and share the word on social media about how vibrant our city really is'.
The NSW Government is contributing $100,000 to the campaign, which has been matched dollar for dollar by Maitland City Council. The campaign is funded through the State Government’s Regional Tourism Fund (RTF) which offers funding for marketing and product development support activities for local areas that have between $100,000 and $500,000 to invest, which is then matched dollar for dollar by Destination NSW.
Minister for Tourism Stuart Ayres said that Maitland is a vibrant, historic city, rich with experiences for all tastes.
'Research shows that over 55s are significantly more aware of Maitland than others so we have a real opportunity through this campaign to grow awareness and destination appeal with a slightly younger audience.
'Being within such easy reach of Sydney makes Maitland a perfect weekend getaway and, for those living further afield, Newcastle Airport is only 25km from Central Maitland and offers direct flights to and from east coast cities and Adelaide.’
