Sports amenities upgraded to be more gender inclusive

To further advance the inclusivity of Maitland sporting grounds and improve opportunities for female participation in sport, Council has been upgrading sporting amenities right across the city.

The developments have seen upgrades to the change room facilities at some of our sporting venues to provide gender inclusive amenities including works to provide separate cubicles and toilets and a more comfortable atmosphere for all. 

Sporting venues that received gender inclusive upgrades in 2019 included Norm Chapman Oval, Rutherford, and Lochinvar Oval, Lochinvar. The program of works has extended into 2020 with further upgrades to three of our popular sporting venues including Somerset Oval, Thornton, Metford Oval, Metford and Shamrock Hill Oval, Ashtonfield.  

Works at Fieldsend Oval, Metford is also currently underway and due for completion in 2021. 

These upgrades will provide opportunities for women and girls to play sports they haven't traditionally played and to offer sport in different ways. The upgrades will contribute to a stronger sports sector in Maitland where women and girls are valued, recognised and have more equal choices and opportunities to participate.
