Sydney Writers Festival Live and Local in Maitland
Highlights include popular ABC broadcaster Leigh Sales, Archibald Prize winning artist Ben Quilty in conversation with Julian Burnside, The Chaser's Chris Taylor investigating why people lie, and journalist and public intellectual David Marr discussing his chronicle of our times, My Country.
City Librarian Keryl Collard says, ‘This is a chance for the Maitland community to participate in the festival and to see some of the world’s finest authors and esteemed thinkers without travelling to Sydney’.
The Festival’s Artistic Director Michaela Maguire says, ‘SWF programming is driven by the ideas and issues that animate all types of literature and includes local and international contemporary novelists, screenwriters, musicians and writers of cutting-edge nonfiction, to some of the world’s leading public intellectuals, scientists and journalists’.
Make a day of it and browse the pop-up book shop, order a coffee from Bessie Brown's coffee cart and explore the award winning Maitland Regional Art Gallery just across the road.
The Sydney Writers’ Festival ‘Live and Local’ is presented as part of Maitland City Library’s ‘Look Who’s Talking’ program. Bookings for this free event may be made online at maitlandlibrary.com.au/look-whos-talking
