Youth Week Grant applications now open
Applications for Council’s Youth Week Grants opened today and local groups are encouraged to apply and get involved in the celebrations. Youth Week, which will be held between Wednesday 1 April and Thursday 9 April 2020, is now the largest annual youth participation event in Australia.
As part of Youth Week Council, in collaboration with Department of Communities and Justice, provides funding to groups which involve young people in planning, developing and managing activities. Non-profit, incorporated organisations or groups that want to work with young people to deliver a 2020 Youth Week event can apply for up to $3,000 in funding.
Council’s Coordinator Community and Recreation Planning Emily Livens says, ‘Events and activities held throughout Youth Week not only help raise awareness of youth issues, but they also give our young people an outlet to express themselves through their involvement in planning and managing the events, which in turn provides them with important skills and experience’.
‘This year, over 70,000 young people participated in over 700 Youth Week events and activities which took place around Australia and it’s fantastic that Maitland can be part of the celebrations. Grant funding can make a real difference to these types of events and I’m eager to see the plans of our young people come to fruition in 2020.’
To be successful, applications will need to provide information on how young people will be involved throughout the planning and running of the Youth Week event and applicants are also encouraged to collaborate with other groups where possible.
Applications will be assessed against the National Youth Week and Maitland City Council guidelines by Council’s Youth Week Committee which is made up of young people aged 12 to 25.
Applications close 3 February 2020 and for more information or to complete an application form click here.
