Level 1 Water Restrictions are in effect across the Maitland Local Government Area.
Level 1 water restrictions are currently in place. Since September Council has been making a number of changes to its water usage. In addition to preparing Water Efficiency Management Plans in conjunction with Hunter Water and continuing to make use of water from Council bores for construction works and park maintenance, Council has altered many of its processes across the organisation to save water.
Council is committed to continuous assessment of its water usage and the identification of further water saving initiatives.
Parks and sporting fields which have an existing sub-surface automatic irrigation system, will be watered by Council in accordance with our Water Efficiency Management Plans which have been developed in conjunction with Hunter Water. Council is working with user groups to ensure restrictions are adhered to on Council sporting grounds. Click here to view more.
At Maitland Aquatic Centre, the Splashpad will continue to operate, but in order to conserve water, operating hours have been significantly reduced in line with peak usage periods. Instead of operating daily, the Splashpad will be open from 10.00am until 5.00pm on weekends and during school holidays.
There are a number of simple changes you can make to conserve water at home, these include:
- Limit showers to four minutes and place a bucket in the shower with you to recycle water for use in your garden
- Repair dripping taps and leaking toilets as soon as they are noticed
- Wash your car with a bucket on your lawn so that your grass benefits
- Ensure you water your garden with a hand held nozzle and in accordance with Hunter Water's Level 1 Water Restrictions
