Volunteer and make a difference
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community.
There really are some special people in Maitland who tirelessly give up their time to volunteer and assist others. From 2011 to 2016 Maitland saw a 25% increase in volunteers that come from all walks of life, from students and professionals to retirees. From assisting the aged and disabled, to helping coordinate some of the city’s biggest events, there’s an opportunity to suit every interest area, skill level and schedule.

The Maitland Events team is responsible for delivering seven flagship events for the city each year including Hunter Valley Steamfest, Maitland Taste Festival, Maitland Aroma Festival, Riverlights Multicultural Festival, Bitter and Twisted International Boutique Beer Festival, New Year's Eve and Australia Day. These events are considered to be an integral part of Maitland’s cultural identity and are helping the city to become widely recognised as a home of unique, exciting and extremely successful festivals which would not be possible without our dedicated team and the volunteers who work alongside them. Get involved by completing the volunteer form.

Whilst the volunteers of our community are not looking for recognition, Council likes to acknowledge the positive contribution that volunteers make to the lives of others in our community by annually hosting the Maitland City Service Awards. There are two award categories, the Maitland City Council Volunteer Service Award and the Maitland City Service Award. Visit Maitland City Service Awards Program to learn more about the awards and find out when nominations are open.
In addition to the service awards, a number of social events are held annually so volunteers can catch up with the friends they have made through volunteering.
