Matt Lantry has had a transformational impact on rugby league in Maitland and the Hunter region. From his early days playing junior rugby for West Maitland, Morpeth, and the Maitland Pickers, to a professional stint in the NRL with the Parramatta Eels, Matt has dedicated his life to the sport and his community.

Since returning to Maitland in 2020, Matt has coached the Maitland Pickers to six major titles in six seasons, including four consecutive Newcastle Rugby League premierships and two NSW President's Cups. Under his leadership, the club has become a regional powerhouse, renowned for professionalism, loyalty, and community pride.

Beyond winning titles, Matt has built pathways for young players, coaches, and volunteers, fostering talent from grassroots to elite representative levels. His work through the Rugby League Academy and local clubs has inspired hundreds of aspiring athletes and strengthened Maitland's identity as a rugby league heartland.

In 2026, Matt will take on the role of SG Ball coach with the Newcastle Knights, further extending his influence on elite pathways and the development of the next generation of players.

Matt Lantry's vision, leadership, and dedication have left a lasting legacy on rugby league in Maitland.
