Pathways Program
Council offers a Pathways Program that combines diverse real world experiences with learning for all different ages and education levels. Each of these categories will include formal training, coaching and mentoring relevant to their career area.
Our five programs include:
- Apprenticeships
- Traineeships
- Cadetships
- Internships
- Graduates.
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships allow participants to gain paid practical workplace experience that complements the skills and tertiary studies being learned at TAFE, or similar training organsation, alongside the support of a mentor.
Apprenticeships are undertaken up to, or including, AQF Level 4, and typically take four (4) years to complete.
Traineeships
Traineeships allow participants to gain paid practical workplace experience that complement the skills and tertiary studies being learned at TAFE, or similar training organsation, alongside the support of a mentor.
Apprenticeships are undertaken at a minimum level of AQF Level 3, and typically take 12 to 24 months to complete.
Cadetships
Cadetships are structured programs for university students that help participants work towards completing their degree and studies (AQF Level 7), while also gaining workplace experience and mentoring.
Cadets will spend around one (1) day per week attending university, while Council will pay 100% of the tuition fees and accommodate students attending lectures.
Cadetships typically take three (3) to four (4) years to complete.
Internships
Internships are structured programs for participants who have completed their studies and attained a qualification that does not exceed AQF Level 6 within the last 24 months.
Internships are fixed term paid opportunities that focus on learning and development, as well as on the job experience and mentoring. Participants may be employed on a full time or part time basis depending on the requirements of the role and needs of Council.
Internships can vary between three (3) to 12 months in duration.
Graduates
A graduate program is a structured program typically for participants who have recently completed their final year of study.
To be eligible, participants need to have completed their degree (minimum AQF Level 7) within the last two (2) years. Graduate roles are fixed term contracts that focus on learning and development, as well as on the job training and mentoring, and usually include the opportunity to work in various roles during the rotational schedule.
Graduate programs are generally two (2) years in duration.
Work experience
Our work experience program offers high school, TAFE and university students the opportunity to undertake unpaid work experience placements at Council across a diverse range of careers and work locations. Participants will receive on the job experience, support and guidance to help develop their vocational skills.
The program is voluntary and runs for a one (1) or two (2) week period.
Applications are due at least four (4) weeks prior to the intended work experience placement. To apply, complete the online Work Experience Application Form.
