The Pathways Program comprises of the five program categories listed below:
Each category may follow through on a combination of formal training and development, coaching and mentoring and on the job training and experiences relevant to their recruited career area known as Streams.
Streams (Placement opportunities)
The Pathways Program is primarily designed to accelerate participants’ learning in their designated career area. We offer placement opportunities in the following areas:

- Civil Construction
- Community Development
- Customer Service
- Gallery Services
- Information and Communication Technology
- Human Resources
- Library Services
- Plant Mechanics
- Records Management
- Town Planning
- Waste Management
An apprenticeship is a structured learning and development program in a particular field of study and on a fixed term employment contract. Employees will be provided with a percentage of paid time to undertake tertiary studies. They will work in a discipline relevant to the study for the duration of the apprenticeship to gain practical workplace learning.
Apprenticeships are undertaken in conjunction with TAFE (or alternate RTO) at a trade certificate level (typically up to or including AQF level 4). The apprenticeship will provide workplace learning that will complement the skills learned at the RTO or TAFE, offering apprentices the opportunity to exercise skills practically in the workplace, with the support of their mentor throughout the apprenticeship.
Apprenticeships are generally four years in duration.

A traineeship is a structured learning and development program in a particular field of study and on a fixed term employment contract. Employees will be provided a percentage of paid time to undertake tertiary studies and will work in a discipline relevant to the study for the duration of the traineeship to gain practical workplace learning and experience.
Traineeships are undertaken in conjunction with TAFE (or alternate RTO) at a minimum level of AQF Level 3 but may also progress up to AQF Level 4 or 5). The traineeship will provide workplace learning that will complement the skills learnt at the RTO or TAFE, offering trainees the opportunity to exercise skills practically in the workplace, with the support of their mentor.
Traineeships are generally 12-24 months in duration.

|2023 Traineeship Program Start Date|
A cadetship is a structured professional development program from identified academic disciplines on fixed term employment contracts. A cadet will work towards completing their degree (in a relevant discipline) while undertaking on the job training and mentoring. A cadetship enables a university student to gain practical experience while completing university studies (AQF Level 7). Cadets will spend approximately one day per week attending university. Council will pay 100% of the tuition fees and accommodate students attending lectures.
Cadetships are generally 3 - 4 years in duration.

An internship with Council is a structured professional development program targeted at non-degree qualified candidates who have completed their studies and attained a qualification not exceeding an AQF Level 6 within the previous 24 months.
Internships focus on learning and development, as well as on the job training and mentoring. Internships are fixed term paid opportunities, and participants may be employed on a full time or part time basis depending on the requirements of the role and needs of Council relevant to that stream.
Internships are generally 3 - 12 months in duration.

A graduate program is a structured professional development program from identified academic disciplines on fixed term employment contracts. Typically, these opportunities are available to graduates after completing their final year of study. To be eligible, they require the candidate to have completed their degree (minimum AQF Level 7) within the previous two years.Graduates focus on learning and development, as well as on the job training and mentoring. Graduate programs would usually include the opportunity to work in various roles during the rotational schedule.
Graduate programs are generally two years in duration.
