An apprenticeship is a structured learning and development program in a particular field of study and on a fixed term employment contract. Employees will be provided with a percentage of paid time to undertake tertiary studies. They will work in a discipline relevant to the study for the duration of the apprenticeship to gain practical workplace learning.
Apprenticeships are undertaken in conjunction with TAFE (or alternate RTO) at a trade certificate level (typically up to or including AQF level 4). The apprenticeship will provide workplace learning that will complement the skills learned at the RTO or TAFE, offering apprentices the opportunity to exercise skills practically in the workplace, with the support of their mentor throughout the apprenticeship.
