It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Maitland

Maitland is set to come alive this festive season, with a program of family-friendly events and community activities that will bring the city together throughout November and December.

This year’s bumper Christmas program features something for everyone, including the return of Christmas Movie Night, Maitland’s Best Christmas Street Lights Competition and a host of activities at The Levee, from Santa photos to A Merry Little Christmas market.

Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold says the festive season is a key highlight of the city’s event calendar and a special time for the community to come together and celebrate.

“Christmas in Maitland is about celebrating community. It’s a chance to enjoy time with loved ones and share in the joy that this season brings.

"While the Christmas season can be a challenging time for some, we hope these events and activities help spread a little extra magic across our city."

Festivities will officially begin outside Maitland City Library, where the city’s iconic 11-metre Christmas tree will be lit on Wednesday 12 November, marking the start of Maitland’s Christmas celebrations.

The Mayor’s 2025 Toy and Food Appeal encourages residents to give back by donating non-perishable food, toys and gifts by Wednesday 26 November. All donations will support local families through Maitland Region Community Support and the Susan Roskell Toy and Gift Drive.

The festive fun continues at Christmas Movie Night on Saturday 6 December at Maitland Regional Sportsground, featuring How the Grinch Stole Christmas on the big screen, alongside food trucks and live entertainment.

Over at The Levee, the spirit of the season will be in full swing. Throughout December, families can capture a special memory with Santa photos, with a new pet-friendly session introduced this year. Then on Saturday 13 December, A Merry Little Christmas mini market will fill the precinct with boutique stalls, local food, live music and a special appearance from Santa.

Neighbourhoods across Maitland are also encouraged to show their Christmas spirit through Maitland’s Best Street Christmas Competition, with entries open from 1 to 15 December.

“Whether you’re helping others, decorating your street with Christmas lights or simply enjoying a community event, this is a season that brings people together and reminds us of what makes Maitland such a great place to live.”
