Storm update

Maitland City Council storm update: Saturday 18 January 2025

Maitland City Council is part of a large multi-agency response following this week’s storm event. A state of Natural Disaster has been declared that includes the Maitland LGA. A range of services are available to the Maitland community as outlined below.

The Department of Communities & Justice – Welfare services have arranged for the Salvation Army food truck to be at Noel Unicomb Community Centre in Woodberry, offering hot meals on Saturday 18 January from 5pm – 7pm as well as Sunday 19 January from 12pm – 2pm and again from 5pm – 7pm.

The Maitland Community Hub is open Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 January from 2pm – 6pm at the Pat Hughes Community Centre, Thornton. Ausgrid, SES, and Maitland City Council will be on hand to offer support. There will be light refreshments and phone recharging facilities for those affected by the storm.

Mayor Philip Penfold says “I would like to thank the State and Federal Governments, the SES, Ausgrid, Hunter Water, Council staff as well as all organisations and support agencies who are working tirelessly to support our community and to clean up after the storm.

“It’s wonderful to see the community supporting each other in this tough time, please remember to check in on family and neighbours, particularly those who may be vulnerable.”

Council is also offering free green waste drop off at the Resource Recovery Facility at 109 Mount Vincent Road until 3.45pm on Sunday 26 January.
