Maitland Riverlights returns in 2025 with a week-long celebration of culture and community
The region’s biggest cultural festival, Riverlights, will return in 2025 with a week-long program starting Tuesday 7 October and culminating in the main event at The Levee Central Maitland on Saturday 11 October from 2pm to 9pm.
A highlight on the local events calendar, Riverlights transforms the city into a vibrant global village, showcasing up to 50 cultures through live music, dance, food, art and interactive cultural experiences.
Building on the success of last year’s festival, which celebrated over 40 cultures and drew thousands of visitors, this year’s event promises to be even bigger and more diverse.
Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold says Riverlights is a much-loved event that unites the community while highlighting the region’s rich cultural diversity.
“Riverlights reflects the vibrant spirit and multicultural fabric of our community, making our city a welcoming place for all,” Mayor Penfold said.
“This event is a celebration of who we are as a community, and it also gives a great boost to our local economy – especially local businesses and hospitality venues.”
The 2025 program will feature live performances, cultural workshops, a diverse array of international food, a community parade and the much-anticipated lantern flotilla and light show on the Hunter River to close the festival.
Riverlights 2025 is proudly supported by the NSW Government through Multicultural NSW and Destination NSW, along with Maitland City Council. We are excited to announce The Mutual Bank as the presenting partner for 2025.
The Mutual Bank CEO Mark Williams said events like Riverlights play a vital role in enriching the region.
“These festivities energise our city centre, support local businesses and contribute to the vibrancy and economic growth of our region. We’re thrilled to help shine a light on our wonderful city and everything that makes it such a special place to live, work and visit.”
Details of the full program, including headline acts and workshop registrations, will be released closer to the event.
