Fitness programs

Maitland Aquatics offer a number of fitness programs including Aqua Bike, Aquafit, Aqua Mat and more.

A full description of each class type is available below and there is sure to be something for everyone. There are limited spots per class so ensure you don't miss out by reserving your place on the sign up sheet available at the kiosk half an hour prior to the class or by phoning 02 4933 5073.

Aquafit

Aqua fitness enhances cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance while the water provides added resistance and support with minimal joint strain for a great challenge. No matter what your age, ability or experience, aqua fit is an inclusive activity suitable for everyone. Our 45 minute Aquafit classes are held by our AustSwim qualified aqua instructors throughout the week and on Saturday mornings at Maitland Aquatic Centre. Come along anytime throughout the term and join in the fun!

Aquafit Deep

Our deep aqua class is a non-weight bearing form of exercise, so the range of movement and intensity is far greater than you can achieve on dry land and most importantly without the impact. Buoyancy belts are provided so even those who cannot swim can participate. Deep aqua is a class designed to improve your fitness, develop muscle tone, help with weight loss and also strengthen your abdominals and core. This 45 minute class is very much designed for your individual work out so, no matter what your goal you have the option to work at an intensity that suits you. This class is held at East Maitland Pool.

Aqua Mat

The FITMAT is a floating training platform that provides a new, fun, and dynamic way to exercise. Its main feature is its rigidity and ability to float on water. The FITMAT can make the most basic exercises challenging. This 30 minute class will challenge your core like never before in this high intensity interval training (HIIT) class on the water. You will get wet.

There’s 10 spots per class. Reserve your place by putting your name down on the sign up sheet at the kiosk from half an hour prior to the class.

Aqua Bike

Aqua cycling has been designed to take advantage of the many benefits of the aquatic environment. The strongest advantage of the Aqua bike is the utilisation of the waters buoyancy for joint support, which provides protection for those who have special medical concerns such as arthritis. The resistance is determined by four paddle wheels. Resistance is also added by increasing RPM’s through acceleration which is a key component in aquatic conditioning. Additional challenges can be met by a change in seat positions, intervals or power pull techniques. Come along and try the newest 30 minute fitness program. A requirement of the class is the wearing of aqua gym shoes.
