Building demolition
2024/25 financial year

Following the conclusion of a thorough adaptive re-use expressions of interest process conducted throughout 2023, Maitland City Council’s former Administration Building (situated at 283-285 High Street) is planned for demolition in the 2024/25 financial year.

Built in the early 1980s, a review of the building’s condition found it had an estimated lifespan of 10 years without major refurbishment and significant investment was required to bring it up to contemporary standards.

It was concluded that any potential lease agreement was cost prohibitive and didn’t deliver clear economic value to the Maitland community.

The EOI process allowed Council to better understand the costs associated with adaptive reuse of the former admin building and the needs of the local community groups who participated. Council will continue to work closely with these parties to seek alternative opportunities and premises.

Following the demolition of the former administration building, the site is set to be retained by Maitland City Council as a potential development site for the future, whilst being considered public car parking in the meantime.
