Sophia Waters in Chisholm has been identified as the home for a new neighbourhood sportsground to cater to the area's growing population. Located at 15 Suncroft Street, Chisholm, the new sportsground will be the first delivered for the suburb of Chisholm.
Once complete, the new facility will include two mixed sports fields, a turf cricket wicket, an amenities building complete with accessible changerooms and toilets, a canteen and storage area, irrigation and sports flood lighting, fencing and over 100 parking spaces, including accessible car parks. A playspace will also be constructed on site next to the sportsground, with designs for this element of the project currently being finalised.
Construction on the new sportsground began in May 2025 and was completed in April 2026. Work on the amenities building begins in May 2026 and work on the playspace will begin in December 2026, with full project completion expected mid-2027.
The project is being funded by Maitland City Council.
