A new amenities building is being constructed at Max McMahon Oval, Rutherford to replace the existing facilities, improve the user experience for local sporting groups and boost accessibility. Funded by a $3 million grant provided by the Australian Government’s Investing in Our Communities Program as well as $100,000 in Council contributions, the new building will include four unisex changerooms and accessible public amenities, a canteen, first aid and referee rooms, a timekeeping room, tiered seating and an outdoor covered area, as well as accessible entries and associated pathways.

Council has engaged RTC Construction NSW to complete the works, which are expected to finish in January 2026, weather permitting. Once complete, the new amenities will offer improved facilities for local sporting groups, particularly AFL and cricket which are growing in popularity, while also supporting greater female participation in sport.

The Maitland Saints AFL club has been consulted regularly throughout the design process, to ensure the new build is fit-for-purpose for local players and the wider community.
