Description

Maitland City Council’s draft AI Use Policy provides a framework for the ethical, transparent, and secure use of Artificial Intelligence in delivering public services. The policy aims to enhance service delivery while safeguarding individual privacy and upholding community trust.

It applies to all Council-operated AI systems and tools, including those used in customer service, planning, operations, and communications.

Key Objectives:

  • Improve services through responsible AI use.
  • Ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability.
  • Protect personal information and uphold legal standards.
  • Maintain human oversight in all impactful decisions.

Notable Provisions:

  • Privacy protection: No personal or sensitive data will be input into AI systems.
  • Transparency: The Council will inform the public when AI is used.
  • Accountability: All significant decisions will involve human review.
  • Bias and fairness: AI tools will be regularly tested to prevent discrimination.
  • Use controls: Only approved AI tools may be used under strict governance.

AI use is overseen by internal review bodies, with regular audits and compliance checks.
