The NSW Office of Local Government (OLG) released the updated Model Code of Meeting Practice for Local Councils in NSW on 29 August 2025. This revised Model Code includes both mandatory and non-mandatory provisions aimed at promoting consistency, transparency, and efficiency in council meetings across the state.

Councils are required to incorporate all mandatory provisions into their adopted Code of Meeting Practice no later than 31 December 2025.

This Draft Code of Meeting Practice prescribes a uniform set of meeting rules to ensure meetings of councils and committees of councils comprising only of councillors are open, accessible, orderly, effective and efficient in accordance with the updated Code.
