Description
We've undertaken a comprehensive review of our current MDCP (2011) to make sure it meets modern planning practices and aligns with our current Community Strategic Plan and other local and regional plans and strategies. This has now been called the draft Maitland Development Control Plan 2025 (MDCP 2025). Our draft MDCP 2025 supports the provisions of the Maitland Local Environmental Plan 2011 (LEP) and provides detailed guidelines for the planning, design and assessment of proposed developments within Maitland local government area.
Our review considered the relevance of the current development controls against the backdrop of Maitland's development and strategic priorities. The objectives of the review were to:
- propose a range of amended and new controls to address our current context
- make the document more simple, accessible and easier to read
- improve consistency with the LEP and other plans and strategies
- align the document with local and regional planning documents
- improve development controls to ensure they are clear in their expectations, while allowing for performance criteria to encourage better planning and design solutions, and
- provide further guidance on Council’s expectations for development to applicants and assessing staff.
