Residential flood waste clean-up | Maitland City Council

To assist community members affected by the recent flood event, Council will be providing clean-up assistance for eligible residential properties.

The clean-up program covers flood affected household waste from residential properties only and includes the waiving of waste fees at the facility until 18 August 2025. Applications for the waiver of waste fees close on 31 July 2025.

If you require transport assistance for you waste, Council can facilitate where needed. Applications for transport assistance close on 20 June 2025.

Please note: this is applicable to residential homes only. Commercial, industrial, vacant, or non-residential farmland are not eligible.

Not accepted items

Liquids, wet sludge, problem or hazardous waste such as asbestos
General household waste not damaged by flooding
Household items/bulky waste that isn’t damaged or impacted by flooding
Waste from commercial or industrial properties
Waste from the non-residential component of rural or farmland properties
Deceased animals or livestock

If your residential property has been affected by flood water, please complete the online form. Council will review your request and confirm eligibility within five (5) business days.

If approved, you will receive a confirmation email. Please bring this proof of eligibility email along with a proof of address when dropping of your waste at the Maitland Resource Recovery Facility.

For residents that request transport assistance, Council staff will be in contact to discuss available options.

Frequently asked questions

Contractors cannot be used to transport flood waste to the waste facility. If you can’t transport the waste yourself, please select the transport assistance option in the form.
Charities may be approved to deliver eligible flood waste on a case-by-case basis. Please apply online and contact Council if a charity will be attending the waste facility on your behalf.
No, this offer only covers waste caused by floodwaters entering your home or property. If your home was only affected by stormwater, you may be eligible to receive the waiver of the NSW Government waste levy of $170.10, however a reduced gate fee will still apply.
If you require transport assistance, please complete the online form identifying the need for assistance. Council staff will review your request and contact you. If deemed eligible, a suitable pick up location and time will be discussed.
No, this program doesn't cover the disposal of asbestos, liquids, wet sludge, problem or hazardous waste or deceased animals.
For problem waste (eg. gas bottles, paints or motor oils), these must be separated and taken to the Community Recycling Centre at the Waste Facility.
For deceased animals, including livestock, please contact Local Land Services for assistance.
No, vacant, commercial or industrial properties that have been impacted by flood waters are not eligible for the flood waste clean-up program. These properties may be eligible to receive the waiver of the NSW Government waste levy of $170.10, however a reduced gate fee will still apply.
