Maitland City Council is committed to promoting openness, relevance, accuracy and respect in every facet of its social media engagement.
Our social media platforms are places where anyone can share and discuss issues and opinions that are relevant to our Council and the community we represent and serve.
Our social platforms will be monitored by Maitland City Council staff between 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday (excl. public holidays)
Remember, when you post or comment on our social media channels, or otherwise respond to or engage with one of our posts, you are agreeing to abide by the House Rules outlined here.
We will remove comments, posts or direct messages that:
- Contains profane language or is sexual in nature, including instances of masked profanity where symbols, initials, intentional misspelling or other characters are used in place of or to suggest profane language.
- is defamatory, offensive, humiliating, threatening or intimidating to Council officials or members of the public.
- Promote breaking the law, incite violence or lawlessness, or encourage others to do so, including violation of copyright laws.
- Contains content about the Council, Council officials or members of the public that is misleading or deceptive.
- Constitutes harassment and/or bullying within the meaning of the Model Code of Conduct for Local Councils in NSW, or is unlawfully discriminatory.
- Encourage or glamorise the use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs.
- breaches the privacy of Council officials or members of the public contains allegations of suspected breaches of the Council’s code of conduct or information about the consideration of a matter under the Procedures for the Administration of the Model Code of Conduct for Local Councils in NSW.
- violate an order made by a court
- breach copyright
- advertise, endorse or solicit commercial products or business,
- constitutes spam

Blocking or banning
If you are in breach of these House Rules on three occasions, Council reserves the right to hide, remove, block and ban users. The duration of a block or ban is at the discretion of Council. You can request a review of your block or ban in writing to Maitland City Council.
Complaints
Maitland City Council’s social media channels must not be used for making complaints about the Council, Councillors or Council staff. To make a complaint, contact Maitland City Council.
