Tom Danilidis has dedicated more than 60 years to the growth and success of basketball in Maitland, becoming one of the region’s most influential community sport leaders. Starting as a young player at the local PCYC, Tom went on to coach, mentor and lead the Maitland Mustangs (Maitland Basketball Association), helping establish the organisation as a respected force regionally and nationally.

Widely known as the father of Maitland basketball, Tom played a pivotal role in developing women’s programs, creating pathways for junior and senior athletes to compete at regional, national and international levels, and nurturing coaches who have progressed to leadership positions across Australia. His work has shaped generations of players, volunteers and community members.

Tom’s significant contribution has been recognised through numerous honours over the years, including the naming of the main court at the Maitland Federation Centre as the Tom Danilidis Court in 2016. His induction into the Maitland Hall of Fame reflects a lifetime of service, leadership and dedication to community sport in Maitland.
