Council continues to nurture talent for the city's future
This morning Maitland Mayor, Cr Loretta Baker, welcomed five trainees and one apprentice to Council’s ranks as they signed up to their new roles at Maitland Town Hall.
The five traineeships are being offered in the diverse areas of business administration, customer engagement, events and graphic design, with the apprenticeship as a Plant Mechanic.
Maitland City Council has a long record of nurturing talent and providing the opportunity for on the job learning to supplement studies, equipping trainees and apprentices for their future careers whether that be at Council or in the wider community.
Mayor Baker says, ‘It’s fantastic to welcome these energetic and bright individuals to Council’s workforce.
‘We are so pleased to have the opportunity to provide our newest staff members their first taste of on the job experience at Council, serving the Maitland community while being supported to undertake their studies.
‘Traineeships and apprenticeships are a great opportunity to bring people in on the ground level and spend time building their capacity over their time with Council. We have many examples of previous participants who have subsequently secured full time roles in the organisation with others gaining the skills and experience that has seen them successful in securing a role outside of Council’.
Council’s two business administration trainees, Hayley Threlfo and Lilliana Botham and Customer Engagement Trainee Angelina Mantle, have commenced 12 month traineeships, while events trainee Sienna Edwards and graphic design trainee Myisha Edmonds will undertake their traineeships over a two year period. Plant Mechanic Solomon Pillidge has taken on a four year apprenticeship.
Liam Wells and Riley O’Donnell, who commenced with Council in 2019, are currently studying Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology and Certificate III in Fabrication respectively and participated in today’s welcome alongside Mayor Baker.
