Fresh new faces for Council
Earlier this week I had the pleasure of meeting seven fresh faced youngsters who have just started working at Maitland City Council.
As it does every year, Council has brought on board a number of business administration trainees who will get to complete a Certificate 3 in Business Administration at Hunter TAFE while working in a steady job. This year we have Shakira (Infrastructure and Works), Rhylee (Planning and Development), Amy (Citizen Services) and Breeanna (Records) all starting with us. Council has also welcomed three new apprentice gardeners in Jye, Mitchell and Brendan. They will all study a Certificate 3 in Horticulture.
It was really encouraging to see how excited they all seemed to be to kick start their career in local government. I found out that they were all living locally as well, which is a great thing for Council.
It’s also good to know that Council is committed to supporting them in their studies with Hunter TAFE and providing them a great kick start to what is hopefully a long and fufilling career.
Great news for our fireworks
While it was a shame that we couldn’t get them going at New Year’s Eve, I was happy to learn that the PRD Nationwide Hunter Valley fireworks will be used at an After Dark activity at The Levee in June.
‘After Dark – Winter Solstice’ will no doubt be a great celebration of the shortest day of the year with loads of fire performers, entertainment and delicious food warming the streets, so I encourage you to stay across that event on Facebook.
