Maitland City Council is proud to support the ‘Joe Rider’ Motorcycle Awareness campaign running from Monday 19 October to Friday 23 October across Maitland, Cessnock, Singleton, Port Stephens, Upper Hunter, Muswellbrook and Mid Coast.
Throughout the week, local motorcycle riders will be on the roads wearing high visibility ‘Joe Rider’ vests. Fellow road users will be encouraged to, upon pulling over their vehicle, register the sighting on Council’s website for a chance to win daily vouchers.
Maitland City Council’s Road Safety Officer, Suzanne Alley says ‘Joe Rider is about encouraging drivers to look out for motorcyclists. The intention is to reduce the incidence of S.M.I.D.S.Y. (sorry mate I didn’t see you) that many riders have experienced.
‘Road users are encouraged to develop some new habits such as checking blindspots, mirrors, being cautious at intersections and help motorcyclists Ride to Live.’
‘Joe Rider’ is entering its thirteenth year in the ACT, however 2020 will be the first year the project has been rolled out in the Hunter Region and is supported by Transport for NSW.
